A dental crown repairs a tooth so weakened by breakage or decay that a filling is not possible. Your crown can be sculpted to match the color and appearance of your natural teeth. The crown replaces the entire external portion of your tooth and protects it from further decay or damage.
At Affordable Dental Solutions, we provide various dental crown options, including porcelain crowns and PFM, or porcelain-fused-to-metal, crowns. Treatment options are decided upon based on your dentist’s preference and discretion.
During your dental crown appointment, your dentist will take an impression of your tooth. A temporary crown is made from the impression, while a permanent crown will be made in a laboratory. Your existing tooth will be filed down in order for the crown to fit comfortably.
Treat your temporary crown as you would your natural teeth. Brush carefully to keep your crown in place, and try to stay away from hard or chewy foods, which may dislodge your temporary crown.
A few weeks after your appointment, you’ll return to the office for the placement of your permanent crown.
Yes. Your crown will be shaped and colored to match your natural teeth.
Even with dental crowns, the exposed parts of your natural teeth are still susceptible to decay. If you want to maintain the natural appearance of your dental crown, visit our office for regular checkups. We can help pinpoint and prevent any problems before they occur and keep your smile looking bright.
Most crown restorations are at least partially covered by dental insurance. Check with your insurance provider for complete information.
